The European FP7 project “Health Impact of Engineered Metal and Metal Oxide Nanoparticles” (HINAMOX) is focused on studying the toxicity of metal oxide nanoparticles , a key issue for assessing the safety of nano-based products which are widely used in the chemical, cosmetic and electronics industries, and waste treatments, among others. For example, TiO2 and ZnO nanoparticles are used as catalysts and UV protectors; CuO in anti-fouling paints; Al2O3 as a surface protector; CeO2 in polishing; indium-tin oxides forming anti-electrostatic coatings and
|
various rare earth oxides are employed in electronics manufacturing. The project combines basic research on nanoparticle synthesis and characterization, “in vitro” and “in vivo” studies to asset the biological fate of the nanoparticles and their immunological effects, as well as exposure and risk analysis.
|
The main topics of this workshop are:
|
1) The presentation of project to general public and industrial stakeholders
|
2) Bring a scientific explanation for the possible risks of nanomaterials for humans and the environment to the general public
|
3) Provide information on actual risks of handling and exposure to nanomaterials in the industry and how to avoid them
|
4) Present a general view the EC policy on nanosafety and the different actions undertaken in research and legislation
|
The workshop is of interest for industrial stakeholders associated or that will eventually be dealing with the production, handling and commercialization of nanomaterials ; and also for the general public interested in issues concerning nanomaterials and their implications for human health and the environment.
Location: Exhibition Area Theater (Industrial sessions) - date to be defined
Note: is open to all ImagineNano participants

Description:
Within the framework of international event IMAGINENANO, the Enterprise Europe Network Basque organises the brokerage event focused on nano and microtechnologies and their applications in various industrial sectors.
The aim of the ImagineNano Brokerage Event 2011 is to encourage meetings between technology developers and technology users in order to foster technical cooperation in the field of micro & nanotechnology.
Companies, technological centers, research and development institutes, research laboratories, universities and private researchers have opportunity to:
- present their know-how and innovative technologies
- find new technological solutions
- meet potential business partners
- find partners for collaborative European R&D projects
- make new international contacts
HOW IT WORKS
After your registration for the Brokerage Event, you will be asked to submit your PROFILE: Technology offer, technology request or partner search. The profile will then be presented in the online catalogue. You may submit separate profiles for each technology you want to highlight. And the earlier you submit your profile, the better chance you stand of being selected by other participants.
One week prior to the event you will receive your meeting schedule for your 30 minutes individual One-on-One meetings on Tuesday 12th between 9.30-13.30 and 14.30-18.30.
YOUR BENEFITS
Thanks to the proven methodology we offer you a good meeting schedule with high level meetings.
DEADLINES
25 March, Registration and submission of profiles
30 March, Bilateral meeting request
1 April, Sending preliminary meeting schedule
6 April, Sending Final meeting schedule

This forum aims to deal with topics of interest for both, Industry and Academia, allowing direct contacts between CIBER-BBN researchers and company managers, in order to find mutual interests and potential collaborations.
|
Main aspects of this forum are:
a) Synthesis of bio- and/or nano-materials.
b) Physical and chemical characterization of bio- and/or nano-materials.
c) Their biomedical applications (implants, medical devices, scaffolds for regenerative medicine, etc.).
|
|
The forum consists of two parts. The first one, in the morning, is a session of brief talks (5 minutes each) where both, the enterprises and the CIBER-BBN research groups, present their technologies, collaboration interests, as well as what they can offer. The second part, in the afternoon, is a partnering section with bilateral meetings between companies and research groups. These bilateral meetings are requested after the morning talks when affinities and mutual interests have been identified. Hopefully, further meetings and future collaborations can arise from this first interview.
